后面是“事情”时，表示“办理”、“处理”，有延续性，不一定就是“办好了”、“处理掉了”。【例如】I don't know how to deal with this problem. 这个问题我不知道如何处理。/ They can deal with any kind of emergency. 任何紧急情况他们都能应付。/ The Financial Officer deals with all the finances of the university. 财务主任处理大学的全部财务。后面是“人”时，deal with表示“应付”、“打交道”或者有点对立意义的“对付”。【例如】I know how to deal with him. 我知道如何对付他。/ I always have to deal with awkward customers. 我老是要跟怪癖的顾客打交道。/ The judge dealt with her severely. 法官整得她很凶。deal with的宾语不能是具体物件（而且deal with没有处理完成的意义），如果要表示把某物处理掉（又是瞬时动作），无论是削价出售或是对有害废料加以无害处理（瞬时动作），都是dispose of。【例如】She disposed of her shares three weeks ago. 她三周前把股票处理掉了。/ They had nuclear waste to dispose of. 他们有核废料要处理掉。如果是无害废料，简单扔掉就用及物动词junk（也是瞬时动作）。【例如】junk all the old furniture把旧家具全处理掉。
